Your walk begins at the Church of La Madeleine, a false Greek temple imagined at different points as a church, a train station, and a temple to the Glory of the Grande Arm\u00e9e. Beneath its monumental columns echoed the funerals of Chopin, Coco Chanel, Dalida, and Johnny Hallyday, while in its shadow a discreet solidarity restaurant has been serving affordable meals for more than 50 years.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

You then head up Rue de S\u00e8ze and Rue Caumartin, where marshland once gave way to private mansions, hanging gardens, and curved fa\u00e7ades marking the entrance to a chic new 18th-century development. Behind these bourgeois walls hide criminal affairs, rooftop gardens, and pages of literature: Mirabeau stayed here during the Revolution, and Stendhal wrote The Charterhouse of Parma in record time just steps away.<\/span><\/p>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n

The walk then leads you in front of the famous red marquee of the Olympia: long before this legendary music hall, the site hosted\u2026 roller coasters! Before welcoming Piaf, Brel, the Beatles, Hendrix, or Johnny, the place thrilled adrenaline lovers with terrifying rides. In the surrounding streets\u2014Place \u00c9douard VII, the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre \u00c9douard VII, and the Ath\u00e9n\u00e9e-Louis Jouvet\u2014you\u2019ll find a true theater district, haunted by the spirits of Sacha Guitry, Louis Jouvet, and the golden age of Parisian drama.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

A few steps later, you shift from the world of performance to that of spectacular shopping: Galeries Lafayette and Printemps Haussmann, with their glass domes, monumental staircases, and festive windows, tell the story of the invention of modern department stores, seasonal sales, escalators\u2026 and large-scale Parisian chic.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

The walk ends between the Op\u00e9ra Garnier\u2014a palace of marble, gilding, and legendary opera ghosts\u2014and Rue de la Victoire, where the memories of Bonaparte, Jos\u00e9phine, and the Grande Synagogue of La Victoire converge, a major landmark of French Judaism and national heritage.<\/span><\/p>\r\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n
