Did you know that this beautiful mosque is a tragic tribute to thousands of men who died for France? Discover its little known history.

Welcome to the Grande Mosquée of Paris, a place full of beauty and memories. Inaugurated in 1926, it was constructed in tribute to the muslim soldiers who fell during World War I, particularly during the horrible battle of Verdun. About 700,00 men from the colonies were deployed, and many never saw their homeland again.

It’s thanks to influential figures like Lyautey and Herriot that this project is seen today. Their speeches emphasized the importance of the Franco-Muslim brotherhood and paying a lasting tribute to their sacrifices.

Today, this mosque, with its 33 meter minaret and its Andalusian gardens inspired by the Alhambra, is more than a place of prayer. It’s a symbol of memory and peace.
